Country singer Gene Watson married the former Mattie Louise Bivins in January 1961 when he was 17 and she was 15 years old. They have an adult son and daughter.
Although the Texas-born Watson has been recording music professionally
since the 1960s and continues to perform on tour as of May 2015, his
wife stays out of the public eye. An unofficial website run by a fan but
endorsed by Watson and his management describes the early years of
their marriage and Watson's music career when he worked in an auto body
shop to support his family and the support Mattie and their children
provided Watson as his career grew in the 1970s.
